Linear Measurement Technology

BOGEN products support customers with diverse solutions for linear measurement, both incremental and absolute. Linear solutions are used for continuous or discrete positioning, motion control, such as commutaton, and many other solutions.

Linear sensing heads

BOGEN offers a wide range of linear sensing heads. BOGEN can adapt these sensing heads for different applications.

BOGEN absolute linear sensing heads

  • AKS16
  • SLA1
  • SLA2
  • SLA3

BOGEN incremental linear sensing heads

  • IKS8
  • IKS9

Linear scales

BOGEN uses an elastomer tape that is glued on a stainless steel and magnetizes the elastomer. This material is used in width of 5, 8, 10, 20 and 25 mm, other materials are available on request. BOGEN produces reels of 25 and 50 m as a standard, with longer scales available on request. Depending on the coding quality, a patented intermediate layer is used to protect the quality during transport. Therefore, not all scales are available in all length. BOGEN can produce shorter scales in any length.

BOGEN can provide the magnetized linear scale in an extrusion, either magnetizing the scale in the extrusion or using an external extrusion to ease assembly.

BOGEN linear scales are typically glued to the mating surface, many scales can be delivered with an adhesive tape that will allow easy assembly. The top side of the scale can be protected with a thin stainless steel cover tape.

Using a flexible manufacturing process BOGEN offers scales for arbitrary lengths with different pole lengths. BOGEN uses different accuracy classes for linear scales

  • A03 +/- 3 microns maximum deviation of a pole boundary of the ideal position
  • A10 +/- 10 microns maximum deviation of a pole boundary of the ideal position
  • A20 +/- 20 microns maximum deviation of a pole boundary of the ideal position
  • A40 +/- 40 microns maximum deviation of a pole boundary of the ideal position
  • A100 +/- 100 microns maximum deviation of a pole boundary of the ideal position

BOGEN produces linear magnetic scales with one or more tracks. A reference point or index can be written in the second track, which is used as the zero point for the control.
